Author: Bishop Julius Okarike

Verse Of The Day: My eyes stay open through the night watches, that I might meditate on your word. Psalms 119:148

THOUGHT OF THE DAY : God’s word can never change anyone who refuses to give time and attention to it.

LISTEN: Attention towards a thing expresses direction of the heart. Your attention shows the movement and interest of your heart. In the same way, the time you spend studying and meditating in God’s word shows where your love lies. What you spend time on shows the direction of your interest. My dear, time is precious and should be spent wisely. What you spend your time on should both affect your life now and in eternity. Meditate in God’s word to discover His will. God’s will is the purpose of our existence. Hence, a God fearing person won’t rest until he or she has discovered and begins to do what pleases God (Job 23:12). My dear, it’s hard to do the will of God if you can’t spend time in His words. God’s word reveals His will. Therefore, until you understand His word you can’t follow His will. In our anchor Bible verse, David deliberately denied himself some sleep just to meditate on the word of God. That expresses how much he loves to do the will of God. His purpose of staying awake all night was not to attend to his domestic needs, worry over life’s circumstances, plot the downfall of his enemies, worry over wealth and prosperity of others, etc., but to meditate in the word of God. No wonder God called him “a man after my own heart” (Acts 13 22). He spent quality time in God’s word trying to find His will; He spent time in quiet thought for religious purposes; He engaged his mind for the purpose of reaching a heightened level of spiritual awareness. Like David, determine to spend time in the word of God always. Be wise!
