Verse Of The Day : Speak for those who cannot speak; seek justice for all those on the verge of destruction. Speak up, judge righteously, and defend the rights of the afflicted and oppressed. Proverbs 31:8-9 (ISV).

THOUGHT OF THE DAY : The godly defends the rights of the oppressed, but the ungodly seeks to take it away instead.

LISTEN : A man travelled out of his country and returned few years later. In a town hall meeting in his home town, he announced thus: “my people, I am pleased to announce to you that, I am a human right activist. That is, I engage in social or political campaigns against the violation of human rights.” Immediately, his oldest brother jumped to his feet and screamed, “A human right activist in this country? Oh no! You are exposing yourself to serious danger.” My dear, this is the picture of the world today. Those who defend the voiceless and vulnerable are hunted like birds and animals in the bush. They are often incarcerated and maimed just to stop their campaigns. They (the oppressors) forget that, we all are called to defend the right of the afflicted. Sadly, privileged individuals, governments and leaders of nations of the world have neglected to alleviate the plight of others; raise standard of living, defend the defenseless, give hope to the hopeless, and make life worthwhile for those they claim to serve or rule over; instead, they kill and maim the same people they sworn to protect, just to stay in power. Most judges judge for a reward. They work for the ‘highest bidder.’ Justice today seems to be mainly for the rich and not for the poor. What a world! What a complete neglect to our God-given responsibility! Beloved, whatever position you occupy, you’re there to serve the purpose of God. And one of these purposes is to defend the poor and those who can’t defend themselves. Beloved, God is watching us from heaven (Proverbs 24:11-12). So, speak up for the downtrodden and seek their freedom and God will do what you cannot do. (Proverbs 31:8-9). Be wise!

What Should You Do With This Message?
1. Don’t be silent on injustice, rather speak up until something is done.
2. Determine to defend the oppressed and afflicted within your powers and trust God for intervention.
3. Discourage and speak against injustice in your home and protect the rights of the weak.
4. Shun corruption and insist on fairness and integrity wherever you are.

Prayer : Heavenly Father, You’re the God of justice; the defender of the defenseless. Therefore, help me to serve your purpose on the earth, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflection : A cry against injustice in the home, society, and the world at large is a cry that should be supported by all until justice is done and seen to be done.

Quote : “When those whose responsibility is to help the oppressed have made themselves oppressors, God’s grace has just been insulted.”

Faith Confession : In Jesus’ name, I acknowledged that, we all have the responsibility to speak up against injustice, and defend the defenseless. Therefore, I will do my best to the glory of God, amen.
