Verse Of The Day : For who has despised the day of small things…? Zechariah 4:10
Thought Of The Day: He who merely wishes for a glorious future instead of investing purposefully in it, must be prepared to wait endlessly.
LISTEN : A small start can make a great difference. As a matter of fact, today is important to the success of tomorrow. There’s no future without today; and the future is endangered when today is despised. So, don’t despise a little beginning. Our theme verse says,
“For who has despised the day of small things…?”
Every great future begins with ‘a small today.’ Yes, everything big starts small. Life is made up of small things, and without small things there can never be great things. Those who value small things will make the most of life. Our Bible verse today refers to Zerubbabel. Zerubbabel was a governor of the Persian Province of Judah. He led the first group of Jews, who returned from the Babylonian captivity in the first year of Cyprus, King of Persian. Zerubbabel laid the foundation of the second temple in Jerusalem soon after, because he received a sanction to do that. Many of the Jews considered the project of rebuilding the temple as impossible, but God assures Zerubbabel that his (Zerubbabel’s) hands will both lay the foundations of the temple and finish it. (Zechariah 4:9). He started small but eventually accomplished the big project. Those who doubted him were ashamed because the hands of God made everything possible.
My dear, like Zerubbabel, you can equally begin your God-given projects today. Don’t wait until everything is complete to begin. Start small and progress with it. That small thing, (perhaps your talents, career, business, etc.) you so despised, is the link to your greatness? My dear, little things create wonders. How? You may ask! Have you forgotten that, the small rod of Moses delivered Israel from bondage (Exodus 4:1-9); just one stone of David brought down the giant, Goliath (1 Samuel 17) ; and a handful of meal and a jar of oil sustained a widow through years of famine (2Kings 4:1-7). Beloved, learn to use what you have. Stretch your faith. Begin small like the mustard seed and you will expand and conquer territories. But if you choose to merely wish for a glorious future instead of investing purposefully in it, then, you must be prepared to wait endlessly. Be wise!
