Verse Of The Day : And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saves not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give you into our hands. 1 Samuel 17:47
Thought of The Day : Fear cripples man, but faith cripples the devil.
LISTEN : Goliath the Philistine from Gath was a monster to the Israelites. He repeatedly defied the army of Israel, not knowing that with such impudence, God was up against him. He trusted his strength in battle, his arsenal and age-long victories; as a result, he believes that the Israelites (the people of God) would be like one of his victims. Furthermore, he taunted them with cowardice and said,
“…I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man,
that we may fight together. When Saul and all
Israel heard those words of the Philistine,
they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.”
I Samuel 17:10,11
Sadly, King Saul and the army of Israel were afraid of Goliath. They were crippled by his threat. He was practically dreaded by all. But when David visited the battlefield, he could not bear the insult and humiliation that was meted out to his people and to his God. He offered to fight the dreaded Goliath. The Bible says,
“And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail
because of him; your servant will go
and fight with this Philistine.“
I Samuel 17:32
David’s faith was in God, and he defeated Goliath with just a stone from his sling. He was never afraid of Goliath because God was on his side (Psalms 118:6). He believes in the power of God, and understands that victory is possible with God. The Bible says,
“A horse is prepared for the day of battle,
but the victory is from the LORD.“
Beloved, are you threatened by someone or something? Are you taunted and despised by some agents of darkness? Relax! Just be courageous and release your faith. Believe you can overcome no matter what. No one wins until he believes winning is possible. Unlike the army of Israel, David believed that, Goliath was defeatable, and therefore defeated him without a sword. In the same way, you can overcome your fears if you look beyond your strength, and seek the strength of the living God. Be wise!
