Author : Bishop Julius Okarike

Bible Verse : Do not say, “I will pay back evil!” Wait for the LORD, so that he may vindicate you. Proverbs 20:22 (NET).

Thought of The Day : When you pay evil for evil, you make yourself another evil fellow.

LISTEN : “Evil for evil. I will not relent until I have taken my pound of flesh”, says an aggrieved man. This is how lots of people live. They pay evil for evil, in deviance to the commandments of God. My dear, are you itching to pay back evil for evil? Do you want “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth?” Do you find it difficult to forgive your offenders? When you pay evil for evil, you make yourself another evil fellow. It is quite unfortunate that everyone wants to take revenge against his or her offender(s). This ought not be so, the Bible says,

For if you forgive men their trespasses,
your heavenly Father will also forgive you

Matthew 6:14

We live in a world where no one wants to forgive another. Everyone wants to take his or her own “pound of flesh.” What a wicked world! No peace, no forgiveness, no love, but rather violence, killing, destruction and all manner of evil. People want to revenge every evil no matter what. Beloved, why seek private revenge instead of seeking God’s vindication? The Bible says,

“Do not say, “I will pay back evil! Wait for the LORD,
so that he may vindicate you.”

Proverbs 20:22

God vindicates those who trust in Him. He fights their battles no matter what. So, learn to lean on God and don’t do an injury to one that has done one to you. The Bible commands that private revenge is not to be taken, but should be left to God, to whom vengeance belongs. You should learn to wait on the Lord, and He shall save you; commit yourself and cause to God; leave it with Him to avenge your wrongs, and wait for His own time to do you justice. He will at the proper season, and in His own way, save you from your enemies, and make a righteous retribution to them (your enemies). The word of God declares,

“Be sure of this: the wicked will not go unpunished,
but the descendants of the righteous will go free”

Proverbs 11:21

Beloved, do not waste your time seeking revenge, instead, seek the will and help of God. In due time he will answer your enemies. Be wise!

What Should We Do With This Message?
1. Don’t allow yourself to be controlled by evil thoughts, rather, renew your mind.
2. Never allow bitterness to becloud your sense of reasoning.
3. Learn to live wisely and you will not be overcome by evil.
4. Never pay evil for evil, rather, pay good for evil.

Prayer : Heavenly Father! I know that vengeance belongs to you. Therefore, help me to leave vengeance to you, in Jesus ’ name, amen.

A Word Of Blessing : Today, I speak on your life, may God fight your battles and deliver you from oppressions, in Jesus ’ name, amen.

Reflection : Leave vengeance with God and He will bring justice to you.
