Verse Of The Day : Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of you a great nation. Exodus 32:10

LISTEN : It is hard to differentiate between an opportunity and a test when we are desperate for ‘success.’ Quest for success is good, but often dangerous when it is pursued against all wisdom. Most times, what we call opportunity for success is truly a test of our wisdom and discipline. Our text today is about the grievous sin of the Israelites and God’s wrath on them (Exodus 32:1-10). God was angry at them to the point of wanting to exterminate them and promised to raise a people for Moses instead. The Bible says, “And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stubborn people. Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of you a great nation” (Exodus 32:9,10). This was an opportunity for Moses to have a people to his own name instead of Abraham. But he chooses to defend God’s incorruptible reputation. The Bible says, “And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why does your wrath wax hot against your people, which you have brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from your fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against your people. Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you sware by your own self, and said unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever” (Exodus 32:11-13). God made an irrevocable covenant to Abraham. And Moses understands this and therefore refuses to see the offer as an opportunity to replace Abraham, but opportunity to defend God’s reputation. Beloved, what would you have done with such opportunity? Would you have been this selfless towards the benefits of others when you could grab it? Think and be wise!

Bible Verse : One thing I have asked of the LORD, that I will seek after, that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to see the LORD’s beauty, and to inquire in his temple. Psalms 27:4

LISTEN : Serving God is a mark of true wisdom. Yes, true wisdom is to know the only true God. Striving to know God should be our topmost priority. To know God is to determine to please, honour, worship and glorify Him with our lives. My dear, whatever you have in life, minus God, equal to nothing. When you pursue the so-called good things of life at the expense of God, you will lose all at your own expense. You have gained nothing when you reject and ignore God. Beloved, there is nothing more important than the desire to please God. Every other thing should queue behind it. You are sure to succeed when God is your topmost priority. (Matthew 6:33). Like David, the desire to please God should be paramount to us. In our Bible verse David said, “One thing I have asked of the LORD, that I will seek after, that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to see the LORD’s beauty, and to inquire in his temple.”(Psalms 27:4). My dear, learn to seek after God. Let the desire to serve and worship Him consume your heart henceforth. Remember, serving God is a mark of true wisdom. Be wise!

Prayer : Dear Lord, thank you for showing me that you are the only true God. Therefore, help me to serve you all the days of my life. Amen!
