Author : Bishop Julius Okarike

Verse Of The Day : So Jesus told those Jews who had believed in him, “If you continue in my word, you are really my disciples.” John 8:31

LISTEN : We are not disciples of Jesus Christ by a mere declaration of such, but by continuing in His word (Hebrews 3:14). Not to do His word is to deny the faith. My dear, not everyone is a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Anyone can verbally claim to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, but not everyone is truly serving His purpose (Mat. 7:21). Anyone can sing His praise, but not everyone can stick with Him when the going gets tough. Anyone can hear His words, but not everyone can keep His word. A disciple is one who accepts and assists in spreading the doctrines of another: one who follows the way of another. True disciples of Jesus Christ are known for their consistency in following Him and obeying His words. When God’s word is rejected or taken lightly, our claim to a relationship with Him is negated. No one is a true disciple of Christ who does not continue in His word and exercise faith in Him (Hebrews 3:14). Beloved, there is no ‘part- time followership’ in the Lord’s service. Total commitment is the standard for a relationship with God. It is either you are with Him or with the devil; or for Him, or for the devil. What makes the difference between a committed and uncommitted follower of Jesus Christ is what he or she does with the words of God. God’s word is the standard and principle upon which true disciples of Christ base their conducts. They confess both their sins and their faith in Christ (Romans 10:10 ; John 1:9); they are transformed by the word of God, and they hold onto their faith in Christ Jesus (Hebrews 3:14). My dear, are you truly obeying God’s word? Please remember, God loves those who love and honour His words. Beloved, are you a true disciple of Christ? Think and be wise!

Having read today’s devotional, what is expected of you?

3. Be committed and consistent in your relationship with God.

Reflection : A true disciple of Jesus Christ goes where He leads.

Quote : “Jesus Christ is the Master and mediator of His people. Hence, he who refuses to go where He leads is none of His.”

Faith Confession : In Jesus’ name, I confess that true disciples of Jesus Christ are those who abide in the word of God. Therefore, I will strive to do same as long as I live, amen.

Bible Verse : Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him. Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen. Psalms 37:7

LISTEN: Calm down and hope in God. Have faith in Him and He will act. He will grant you your heart desires. Those who wait for Him cannot be disappointed. Sadly, a lot of people feel bad when they are asked to wait for what they desire so much. They feel disappointed when it appears like they have been abandoned. They fail to acknowledge the fact that God cannot forsake His people. (Hebrew 13:5). God is merciful and kind to His people. No matter what happens, it shall be well with those who trust and wait for God. (Isaiah 3:10). Beloved, do not worry about the “prosperity” of the wicked, instead, strive to live in line with the will of God; certainly you will not regret it. Never be in a hurry for prosperity, rather, be diligent and trust the LORD. Always lean on God even when it seems nothing is working for you. People may give up on you or reject you, yet, do not give up on God. Besides, do not envy the wicked who seems to “prosper” in what he does, for he will not stand when God visits. So, wait for the blessings of the LORD, though it may delay, but it will come, and it will come with no sorrow. (Proverbs 10:22). My dear, no matter what, do not rush to where God does not lead you to, because it would end in frustration and heartbreak. Be wise!

Prayer : Dear Lord, help me to always trust in you, amen.
