Verse Of The Day : Teach me your way, O LORD; I will walk in your truth: unite my heart to fear your name. Psalms 86:11

LISTEN : Sometimes ago, I told the story about what a certain Pastor did before delivering his sermon on a Sunday morning. He asks few of his church members thus: “Why are you in church today?” The first person replied, “Pastor, I am hear because today is a Sunday.” The second person said, “Sir, I am here so I could see other members of the church, because it’s been a while since I saw them.” The third person said, “Pastor, I am here because I am a committed member of this church. Besides, I was born into the church.” The fourth person said, “Pastor, I am sick. I am here to receive my healing.” The Pastor was shocked with their answers and never wanted to ask the last person. However, he reluctantly asked her and said, “Sister, what about you?” To the surprise of the Pastor, she replied, “Pastor, I am here to encounter God. I want to know Him more and more.” The Pastor was so happy that, there was still someone who knew why she was in Church. My dear, the answers in this illustration represent the lifestyle of people in Church today. Lots of people come to God for selfish reasons (Matt 6:33; 7:21). They’re not in Church to encounter God through His words, but to find faults and dictate to God what He should do. They’re not prepared to be led by the Spirit of God, but by self. My dear, to encounter God you must be ready to learn and appreciate His words, trust and obey Him always. The word of God is the path to life. There’s no life in anyone who chooses to abandon the ways of God. Beloved, God’s way gives direction and meaning to life. Therefore, submit to God and determine never again to serve Him for the wrong reason. Be wise!

Having read today’s devotional, what is expected of you?
1. Be wise and determine to learn and appreciate the word of God.
2. No matter what, prepare to encounter God in every church meeting.
3. Learn to walk in the fear of God and serve Him faithfully.

Prayer : Blessed Father, teach me to know your ways and make me to live both in your truth and fear, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflection : It’s impossible to walk in the ways of God until His word changes your heart.

Quote : “When God is served for the wrong reason, life will be wasted in pretense.”

Faith Confession : In Jesus’ name, I confess that the ways of God are not our ways. Therefore, I will seek and follow His way as long as I live, amen.

Biblical Fact : Did you know no one has discovered the sepulchre (grave) of Moses after his death till today? (Deuteronomy 34:5,6).

Today In History : November 8, 2004 More than 10,000 US troops and a few Iraqi army units besiege an insurgent stronghold at Fallujah.

Bible Verse : If we live, we live for the Lord; if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.Romans 14:8

LISTEN : It’s wise to know what to live and die for. A lot of people today including believers in Christ Jesus claim to serve God, but only few of them are truly serving God in spirit and in truth. Just few believers are committed to Him whether dead or alive. It is quite hard today to see people who declare their loyalty to God and stay committed to Him when trials hit them. A lot of people are no longer living for God but for themselves and Satan. They place their own interests and opinions above God’s. Friend, those who choose to place their own interests above God’s, will wander into the wilderness of frustration, heartbreak and emptiness. As a wise person, you should strive to glorify God with your life. You should endeavour to live for God and not just for yourself. Friend, if you are living just for yourself, you are living just for nothing. (Mark 8:36,37). So, don’t abandon or ignore God. He who abandons God to pursue the world will eventually discover that he has laboured in vain. Surely, those who live in this life just to please themselves at the expense of God, will exit this world to mourn and groan forever in hell. So, determine to stay committed to God. Be wise!

Prayer: Dear Lord, I appreciate you because Christ Jesus died for the salvation of the world. Help me to put my trust in you and to serve you as long as I live, amen.
