Verse Of The Day : When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. John 19:30

LISTEN : Couple of months ago I told a story about an employer who summoned his three staff as he was preparing to travel overseas, and assigned to them their respective tasks with a time frame. After couple of months, he came back and requested for a detailed account of their respective tasks. The first staff said, “Sir, I will be done in two weeks. I was distracted by an issue that came up immediately you left the country.” Similarly, the second staff said, “Sir, I am very sorry. I have not started mine. I thought you would be spending a long time on your trip. However, I will start right away and I will be done in couple of weeks.” Angry with their responses, the employer remarked, “You have decided your fate in this company by these reckless acts of yours.” Turning to the remaining staff he asked, “What do you have to say about your own task?” The staff smiled and said, “Sir, It is finished.” “What do you mean by it is finished?” Asked the employer. The staff replied, “Sir, the task has been completed. Since the day you left the country, I had been on the job.” The employer exclaimed, “Well done! You have secured a permanent place for yourself in this company. Henceforth, you’ll enjoy the joy of finishing well.”

Sadly, a lot of people are like the first two staff in our story. They succumb easily to distractions and make excuses for themselves instead of doing what is expected of them. They fail to understand that, no matter how good our excuses are, no excuse is good enough to exonerate us from the consequences of reckless actions. So, we should invest our time to do the will of God. Jesus said, “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to complete his work.” (John 4:34 ). At the cross, Jesus completed what He started. He finished the work of redemption and therefore declared, “It is finished.” Beloved, can you say this of yourself? If you examine your life today, can you boldly say, “It is finished?” Henceforth, be serious with God and determine to finish well. Be wise!

Having read today’s devotional, what is expected of you?
1. Stop making excuses for yourself to God, instead, serve Him faithfully.
2. Be determined to finish your God-given assignments well.
3. Don’t succumb to distractions, instead, be focused on Christ the Saviour.
4. Evaluate your work and commitment to God and be prepared to improve on your love for Him.

Reflection : Jesus Christ by his death and resurrection has done for humanity what Satan can’t undo in eternity.

Quote : “It’s possible to begin and finish well every worthwhile endeavour when the heart is fixed on achieving excellence.”

Faith Confession : In Jesus’ name, I confess that God is my help. Therefore, I will not end in frustration and disappointment. I will fulfill my destiny no matter what, amen.

Bible Verse : Everything you do should be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14

LISTEN : We can walk in love because we love God. To walk in love is to live love-driven life. It is to love like God. The world takes love to mean how someone makes them feel or how they feel about someone else, but God says love is about how you behave and treat others. We should know what genuine love is all about. Where genuine love is, unity among believers in Christ and others will thrive. Besides, it will keep friendships, marriages, workplaces, relationships, communities and families together. Where love is genuinely demonstrated, the loving nature of Christ is reproduced. Beloved, we are to love like God for God is love (1 John 4:7). Love is not a feeling, is not an emotion, nor an attraction; is not having an affair with the opposite sex, is not liking someone, but moral character and demonstrating the true nature of God through one’s life. Beloved, learn to love others unconditionally because God is love. Be wise!

Prayer : Heavenly Father, you are loving and caring. Therefore, help me to walk in love always, in Jesus’ name, amen!
