Verse Of The Day : … And a poor man is better than a liar. Proverbs 19:22

LISTEN : A poor man who was looking very old and haggard was crossing the road to his dilapidated building without watching, when a notorious fraudster suddenly arrived in his exotic car, screeching his car break and almost crushed him. In anger he stopped and stepped out of his car and shouted at the poor man. “You poor fool, are you poor and foolish at the same time?” Immediately, the poor man knelt down and pleaded with him for forgiveness, but he ignored him and shouted the more. “You poor foolish man, do you know I can kill you and nothing will happen?” The poor man stood up in anger and replied him, “I am not as poor as you are. You are very poor because you are poor in character. You defraud people of what they have. You are wealthy today by dubious means. Young man, poverty is not a crime, but falsehood is. No person can punish anyone for being poor, but people can condemn you for being a liar and defrauding others.” The fraudster was shocked and ashamed and therefore, zoomed off.

The story today explains our verse of the day. God condemns dishonesty. (Prov 6:16-19; 20:17; 12:22 ). He shows concern for the poor and needy, but He is angry with liars. God hates lies because it is capable of destroying lives. Liars make people believe what is not true. What does it mean to lie? It means to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive. It is to create a false or misleading impression. Many lives are ruined today because of lies. A lie can destroy a person, family, or even a nation. Lies come in different form (propaganda, rumours, blackmail, etc.). Liars tell lies for different reasons (escape punishment, obtain a favour, damage someone else’s reputation, to defraud, etc.). A liar lacks integrity. And a life without integrity is a poor life. Poverty of character is the worst form of poverty and God hates it. Telling lies is so disgusting that the Bible says, “And a poor man is better than a liar.” (Proverbs 19:22). Beloved, is your life built on falsehood? Retrace your steps today. Remember, God does not take lies lightly (see Acts 5:1-11). Be wise!

Bible Verse : It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life. John 6:63

LISTEN : The word of God gives life and Jesus Christ is that living word of God. In Him is life. His coming to the world is a clear expression of God’s visit to humanity. As the living word of life, Jesus Christ manifests the Spirit of God. God’s word carries life because it carries the power of God. He who esteems the word of God will experience divine transformation. Our human nature does not have what it takes to build us into the kind of people God desires. Only the word of God does, and that is what Jesus Christ represents, because He manifests the Spirit of God. (Hebrews 4:12). We cannot be filled with the Spirit of God until we are filled with the word of life. Besides, we cannot experience real life until we have encountered God’s word. God’s word, whether spoken directly by Him, or by His faithful servants are still the same. The same words Jesus Christ spoke when He walked the earth are the same we (his servants) speak today and lives are transformed around the world. However, to be blessed by the word of God, you must first of all embrace and believe it. Beloved, when you believe the word of God you will lose confidence in the flesh; and will begin to grow in faith and stop pleasing your human nature at the espense of God. Friend, embrace God’s word today and experience transformation and real life. Jesus said, “It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.”(John 6:63). So, never rely on the flesh, but rather follow the voice of God through His ever living word. Be Wise!

Prayer : Blessed Father, I know Jesus Christ is the living word. Therefore, help me to receive and cherish Him as my Lord and Saviour, in Jesus’ name, amen.
